Home is where the Art is

Spring is in the air!

It's that time of year when a lot of us feel the urge to spring clean and get our homes and gardens in shape before the summer, even more so now that we can actually have visitors. I've been busy working on the house instead of painting. After starting my week jet-washing the drive, I could barely hold a paintbrush anyway!

So this weeks Blog is all about the murals I've painted over the years in my own home.

Getting stARTed

This jungle themed nursery was the first mural I ever painted for my daughter over 17 years ago.

After 6 years since I'd graduated from Art School I was desperate to get back to painting again.

Go big or go home!

After graduation, I had ended up working in retail visual merchandising which was a far cry from the creative career I'd dreamed of. I had always loved painting on a large scale but it wasn't until my children were born that I began dabbling in Mural painting. First was Eleanor's jungle nursery then Toby's space themed bedroom.

There was no looking back! I decided that it was now or never and took the leap into painting full-time, leaving my job and setting up 'Eden-Designs Murals'. Well, that was over 15 years ago now and it was honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made.

My work has evolved over the years. I create lots of artwork in schools, digital designs and paint lots of sculptures for public art trails, but hand-painted residential murals are still one of my favourite things to create.

Here are a selection of murals I have painted in my own home over the years...

Farmyard Bedroom

Perfect for a toddler! I still remember how excited my daughter was to move into her 'big girl' bed.

Outer Space Bedroom

My son loved this room and all things space related. He often went to bed wearing a space-helmet!

Flower Fairies Bedroom

This was such a pretty room for my pre-teen daughter. She named each one of the fairies after friends and family.

Pirate Bedroom

A lovely nautical themed room complete with an under-bed den for my little boy who loved dressing up as a pirate and terrorising us.

Moroccan Ombre Bedroom

This was a much more grown-up room for my daughter as she turned 13. Rather than a mural, I handpainted an ombre effect in her favourite colour.
